You are an intern on a general medical ward. Patrick Nolan, 54, has Staphylococcus aureus bacteraemia from an infected cannula site. His transthoracic echo was inconclusive. The infectious diseases team has requested a transoesophageal echocardiogram tomorrow.
Obtain informed consent for a transoesophageal echocardiogram
- You do not need to take a history or examine the patient

Blood cultures: MSSA in 2 of 2 sets. TTE: limited views; no definite vegetation.
