Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in the emergency department at Albany Health Campus. Your next patient is Isla Tierney, 6 weeks old, brought in by ambulance with her mother, Jade, after two spells this morning of going blue.

  1. Take a focused history from her mother

  2. Examine the baby

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner
  • Say what you are examining; the examiner will give the findings
  • The baby is represented by a mannequin
