You are a medical student on placement in the emergency department at Geraldton Regional Hospital. Your next patient is Jose Reyes, 38, brought in by ambulance with a week of severe mid-back pain and fevers. This morning his legs gave way.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Examine the patient

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
