Station - Instructions for candidate
You are a final-year medical student on placement in a general practice.
Liezel Santos, a 54-year-old bus driver, has booked a long consultation at her local general practice in Mirrabooka. She noticed a lump in her right breast about six weeks ago and it has not gone away. The GP has asked you to see her now.
Your tasks are to:
- Perform a focused examination of the breast and axilla. Describe to the examiner what you would like to look for or examine and the relevant findings will be provided to you.
- Request any relevant investigations. Results will be provided by the examiner if appropriately indicated.
- State your most likely diagnosis and two or three differentials to the examiner.
- Summarise your findings to the examiner, including the next steps you would arrange in her assessment.
- Please verbalise your examination to the examiner; findings will be provided on request.
- You do NOT need to take a history.
- You do NOT need to prescribe treatment or discuss your findings with the patient.
