Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in general practice. Your next patient is Maree Kinsella, 52, a waitress, presenting with six months of burning pain and tingling in her right foot.

  1. Examine the patient

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your findings
    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
  • You do not need to take a further history
  • Please verbalise your examination; findings will be provided on request
  • The examiner will ask you questions at the end

History taken by the GP today

Pain sits between the third and fourth toes, shooting into those toes. Worse through eight-hour shifts in narrow work shoes; better when she takes them off. No back pain, injury, diabetes or thyroid disease; one or two drinks a week.
