Instructions

You are an intern in the emergency department. Your next patient is Neville Pengelly, 74, who collapsed at his bowls club 45 minutes ago with sudden severe pain in his back and left side, and his wife Dawn is with him.

  1. Assess and manage Neville using an A to E approach

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • The examiner acts as the nurse and carries out your instructions; describe procedures rather than performing them
  • You do not need to take a full history or summarise your findings
  • The examiner will ask you questions at the end.

Observations on arrival, 2.30 pm
