You are an intern on the labour ward. Paige Larkin, 28, is in labour with her first baby. She has pushed for two hours with a working epidural and is exhausted. The baby's head is low and facing down; heart rate normal. The registrar recommends a ventouse and asks you to obtain her consent.

  1. Obtain informed consent for a ventouse birth

  • You do not need to take a history or examine the patient
  • Contractions every 2 to 3 minutes; pause during them

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
