Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in general practice. Your next patient is Nikhil Bhatia, 41, brought in by his support worker because he has not opened his bowels for over a week and his abdomen is bloated.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to examine the patient; the examiner will give you any findings you ask for
  • You do not need to summarise your history to the examiner
Practising alone? Ask the examinerFindings appear only when you ask for them

Examination

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
