Station - Instructions for candidate
You are a medical student on placement in a general practice.
Ayen Deng, a 47-year-old plasterer, has booked to see the GP about pain on the outer side of her right elbow and forearm that came on gradually over the last couple of months and is affecting her work. The GP has asked you to see her.
Your tasks are to:
- Perform a focused examination of her right elbow and forearm, including a neurological screen of the upper limb. Describe to the examiner what you would like to look for or do and the relevant findings will be provided to you.
- State your most likely diagnosis and one or two other possibilities to the examiner.
- Outline your initial management plan to the examiner.
- Please verbalise each step of the examination; the examiner will provide the relevant findings as you go.
- You do NOT need to take a history.
- You do NOT need to order or interpret investigations.
- You do NOT need to summarise your findings to the examiner.
This is a 10-minute station, with 2 minutes of reading time.
