Instructions

You are an intern on an older adult mental health ward. Beryl Kingsley, 68, is a voluntary patient with severe depression. Two antidepressants have not helped and she is eating and drinking very little. The team has recommended ECT and she has capacity to decide.

  1. Take a focused history from Mrs Kingsley

  2. Explain ECT to Mrs Kingsley and begin the consent discussion

  • You do not need to examine the patient

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
