Instructions

You are an intern in the emergency department at Kununurra Hospital. Your next patient is Wesley Brennan, 54, brought in by his wife Marlene with three days of fever, cough and feeling unwell, and drowsy and muddled since this morning.

  1. Assess and manage the patient using an A to E approach

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your findings
    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • The examiner acts as the nurse and carries out your instructions; describe procedures rather than doing them
  • You do not need to take a full history

Triage

HR 126, BP 82/46, RR 32, SpO2 86% on air, T 39.4, GCS 13; estimated weight 80 kg; one 20-gauge cannula in the left forearm, nothing given yet

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
