Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in the birth suite. Bree Ashdown, 29, is 37 weeks pregnant and has not felt her baby move since the weekend. Two scans, by the registrar and the consultant, show no fetal heart activity. She has not been told; the registrar has asked you to speak with her.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Explain the scan result and your management plan to the patient

  • You do not need to examine the patient
  • You do not need to summarise to the examiner

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
