Station - Instructions for candidate
You are a final-year medical student on placement in a general practice in Ellenbrook. The GP has asked you to see the next patient and report back.
Maricel Bautista, 31, is here with Gabriel for his routine visit, which is done. The letter on the file asks that Maricel herself be seen today.

Your tasks are to:
- Take a focused history from Maricel about how she has been since the birth.
- Describe to the examiner the mental state findings you have observed during the interview, with your assessment of risk.
- State your most likely diagnosis and the differential diagnoses to the examiner, then outline your initial management plan and agree it with Maricel.
- You do NOT need to summarise your findings to the examiner beyond the mental state.
- You do NOT need to examine Maricel or the baby; the baby is in a pram beside her and is settled.
- Plan the station: about 5 minutes for the history, 2 for the mental state, and 3 for the diagnosis and plan.
This is a 10-minute station, with 2 minutes of reading time.
