Instructions

You are an intern on the surgical ward. It is 9 am, and the nurse has asked you to see Ayen Akol, 81, on day 5 after a right hemicolectomy, because the left side of her face has become painful and swollen since last night.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Examine the patient

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • Please verbalise your examination; findings will be provided on request
