Instructions

You are an intern in the emergency department. Reza Ahmadi, 34, tipped boiling water from the kettle over his left forearm an hour ago. The ED doctor has assessed a 3% TBSA superficial partial-thickness scald on the inner forearm.

  1. Take a focused history from Mr Ahmadi

  2. Explain the burn and the management plan to Mr Ahmadi

  • You do not need to examine the patient

Assessment

Left volar forearm: red, moist, blistered, very tender; brisk capillary refill; about 3% TBSA. Not circumferential; hand and elbow spared. Observations normal.
