Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in general practice. Your next patient is Makur Arok, 7, brought in by his mother, Akuol, because of a patch of hair loss on his scalp that began six weeks ago and has become sore and swollen.

  1. Take a focused history from his mother

  2. Examine the patient

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner
  • Describe your examination to the examiner; findings will be given on request

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
