Instructions

You are an intern in the emergency department. Your next patient is Rolando Bautista, 54, brought in by his wife, who says he swallowed a box of his heart tablets about three hours ago. He is drowsy and is in the resuscitation bay. A nurse is with you and has the empty box.

  1. Assess and manage the patient using an A to E approach

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • A nurse will carry out your instructions; describe procedures rather than doing them
  • You do not need to take a full history
  • You do not need to summarise your findings

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
