Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in general practice, visiting a residential aged care facility. Your next patient is Ankica Bilic, 86, who has been soiling her pads with loose stool for a week and is more unsettled. The registered nurse, Bindu Mathew, is with you.

  1. Take a focused history from the registered nurse

  2. Perform a focused examination

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • Mrs Bilic is in bed in the room; the examiner will answer for her if you speak to her
  • Please verbalise your examination; findings will be provided on request
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
