Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in the surgical outpatient clinic. Your next patient is Beryl Ashcroft, 76, referred by her GP with something coming out of her back passage for six months.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Perform a focused examination

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner
  • Verbalise your examination; the examiner will give findings on request
  • Any intimate examination is performed on a manikin

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
