You are an intern in the eye clinic. Duncan Abernethy, 63, was referred after his optometrist found high eye pressures. The ophthalmologist has diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma and prescribed latanoprost 0.005% eye drops.
Explain glaucoma to Mr Abernethy and counsel him on latanoprost and the plan
- You do not need to take a history or examine the patient
- A placebo eye drop bottle is on the desk
Findings
Pressure right 28, left 26 mmHg. Disc cupping both eyes. Early field loss right eye. Open angles. Acuity 6/6.
