Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in the maternity emergency department. Daniel Walsh, 32, has brought in his wife Margaret, 29, six days after the birth of their baby, worried by the strange things she has been saying. Margaret and the baby are with a midwife; Daniel is waiting to talk to you.

  1. Take a focused history from her husband

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to see or examine Margaret
  • You do not need to summarise to the examiner
  • The examiner will ask you one question at the end.

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
