Instructions

You are a medical student on placement in the emergency department. Marites Santos, 23, was brought in by ambulance after a seizure at home this morning. Her mother, Lorna, says Marites has been saying strange things for about ten days. Marites is on the trolley and Lorna is at her side.

  1. Take a focused history from her mother

  2. Perform a focused examination

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • Please verbalise your examination; findings will be provided on request
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
