Instructions

You are an intern in the urology clinic. Alan Rowntree, 68, has bothersome urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate. He has taken tamsulosin for six months with only partial benefit.

  1. Take a focused history from Mr Rowntree

  2. Explain the treatment options and agree a plan with Mr Rowntree

  • You do not need to examine the patient; his DRE showed a smooth, symmetrically enlarged prostate

Results

PSA 2.8. Ultrasound: prostate 55 mL; residual 120 mL; kidneys normal. Creatinine 88. Urine culture negative.

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
