Instructions

You are an intern on the orthopaedic ward. You are asked to see Valerie Kostas, 76, three days after a right total hip replacement, because she has been vomiting today and is not eating.

  1. Take a focused history

  2. Perform a focused examination

  3. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner
  • Verbalise your examination; the examiner will give findings on request
  • You do not need to write on the medication chart

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
