Instructions

You are an intern on a surgical ward. Heather Gilmore, 67, had an emergency laparotomy two days ago for perforated sigmoid diverticulitis: a Hartmann's procedure with an end colostomy. She was very unwell before surgery and remembers little. She asks what happened and about the bag.

  1. Explain what happened and the management plan to Mrs Gilmore

  • You do not need to take a history or examine the patient

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
