Instructions

You are a medical student on placement at an Aboriginal Medical Service in Geraldton. Your next patient is Jarrah Mallard, 4, brought in by his mother, Shanae, with a cough that has not gone away for ten weeks. Jarrah is in the waiting room with his grandmother.

  1. Take a focused history from his mother

  2. Outline to the examiner:

    • Your most likely diagnosis and differentials
    • Next steps in management, including relevant investigations
  • You do not need to examine Jarrah
  • You do not need to summarise your findings to the examiner
  • The examiner will ask you one question at the end.

Examination

ChoiceHub writes these stations itself, from the ground up, across a wide range of clinical topics. They are not official exam material, and no university has written, reviewed or endorsed them. “Recommended for” only suggests the year and exam format a station suits.
