Fibrous remnant of the ductus venosus lying in a fissure on the posterior surface of the liver between the caudate lobe and the left lobe, running from the left portal vein toward the IVC.

- Origin
- Ductus venosus, functionally closed within 1-2 weeks and fibrosed by ~2-3 months
- Relations
- The lesser omentum attaches along its fissure; the caudate lobe lies to its right and behind it
- Continuity
- Joins the ligamentum teres at the left end of the porta hepatis
When it goes wrong
Ductus venosus that fails to close (congenital portosystemic shunt)
Portal blood bypasses the liver: hyperammonaemia and encephalopathy, a false-positive galactosaemia on newborn screening, hepatopulmonary syndrome and liver nodules
