Great cardiac vein
ECG leads / veins
Begins at the apex, ascends the anterior interventricular groove beside the LAD, then turns into the left atrioventricular groove beside the circumflex and becomes the coronary sinus where the oblique vein of the left atrium (Marshall) joins it.
Traced from the start
- Left (posterior) aortic sinus and left main stem
- Left anterior descending (anterior interventricular) artery
- Diagonal branches of the LAD
- Septal perforating branches of the LAD
- Left circumflex artery
- Obtuse marginal branches of the circumflex
- Anterior left ventricular wall and apexAnterior two-thirds of the interventricular septumLateral left ventricular wall
- Great cardiac vein
Detail
- Runs with
- LAD (anterior interventricular groove), then circumflex (left atrioventricular groove)
- Drains
- Anterior LV wall, anterior septum, lateral wall via the left marginal vein, left atrium
- Landmark
- Valve of Vieussens marks the transition into the coronary sinus
