Acute Caremiddle twist
You are the intern on a Perth surgical ward. Overnight a 74-year-old woman received ten times the intended dose of insulin because of a prescribing error you made. She became hypoglycaemic, was treated with intravenous glucose, and is now awake, oriented and clinically well. With her son at the bedside she asks you why she was given glucose during the night.
