Cardiovascularmiddle twist
A 54-year-old woman has a symptomatic isolated posterior calf-vein thrombosis found on ultrasound. She has no cancer, previous venous thromboembolism, marked swelling, positive D-dimer or thrombus close to the popliteal vein. She has reliable access to follow-up and can return promptly if symptoms worsen. What is the most appropriate initial management?
