A 2-year-old girl is brought in by her mother, who felt a lump in the child's abdomen while bathing her. The child is well, eating normally and has not lost weight. She had one episode of pink urine last week. Her blood pressure is 128/84 mmHg. On examination there is a smooth, firm, non-tender mass in the left flank that does not cross the midline and can be balloted. There is no bruising around the eyes and no bone tenderness. Urinalysis shows red cells. An ultrasound shows a 9 cm solid mass arising from the upper pole of the left kidney with a normal right kidney.
