A 26-year-old man born in Vietnam who migrated to Australia at age 10 attends for a pre-employment medical. He is well. Blood tests show: hepatitis B surface antigen positive, hepatitis B core antibody (IgG) positive, hepatitis B e antigen negative, hepatitis B e antibody positive, HBV DNA 1,200 IU/mL, ALT 22 U/L (<40), platelets 260 × 10⁹/L, albumin 42 g/L. Liver ultrasound is normal. There is no family history of liver cancer and he does not drink alcohol.
