A 17-year-old girl is brought to her general practitioner by her father. Over eight months she has stopped seeing friends, dropped from an A to a D average, sleeps through most of the day and has told him that people at school know things about her, without being able to say how. She is not frankly deluded, has no hallucinations and denies any substance use. Her physical examination is normal.
