At 2 am you are the intern who admits a 2-year-old girl with a spiral fracture of the humeral shaft and bruising over the upper arm and back, for which her parents offer no explanation. The paediatric registrar has reviewed her, telephoned the Department of Communities and arranged admission. A multidisciplinary case discussion is set for 10 am.
