A 64-year-old woman attends the general practice with six weeks of low mood, tearfulness, broken sleep and loss of interest in everything she used to enjoy. Five weeks ago she was started on prednisolone 25 mg daily for polymyalgia rheumatica and her shoulder girdle pain has resolved completely. Her other medicines are alendronate, calcium and esomeprazole. Her brother died a year ago. She drinks two glasses of wine a week. She has no thoughts of self-harm, is eating, and is still going to work. She asks whether she should start something for the depression. Which one of the following should be undertaken first?
