A 46-year-old woman has been fully well for eight months on sertraline 100 mg daily. This is her fourth depressive episode; the previous three, at 30, 34 and 39, each responded to an antidepressant that she stopped after about six months, and two of them cost her several weeks off work. She has no medical problems, tolerates the drug well and is now working full-time. She asks whether she can come off it, or at least drop to a lower dose, in her words just to keep her ticking over.
