A 30-year-old woman is brought to the emergency department unable to walk after a heated argument with her mother. Her right leg lies flaccid and she cannot lift it off the bed, but when she presses the left leg down against your hand you feel the right heel drive firmly into the mattress. Sensation stops abruptly at the groin in a straight line all the way round. Reflexes are symmetrical, plantar responses are flexor, and the nurse saw her take several steps while distracted. Computed tomography of the brain is normal. Which one of the following should be done next?
