A 29-year-old woman was admitted three weeks ago unable to walk. Magnetic resonance imaging of brain and whole spine, nerve conduction studies and cerebrospinal fluid examination are all normal. The neurologist has documented a positive Hoover sign and variable give-way weakness, has explained the diagnosis of functional neurological disorder, and the patient accepts it. She has no depression and no suicidal ideation. She has stayed in bed for three weeks and is visibly deconditioned. The bed manager is asking for a discharge plan.
